each season we grow and ship green beans in the Orange
county area following a strawberry or sweet pepper crop.

| Handling: |
When receiving green beans, look
for clean, tender and well-shaped beans. Pods should
be well-filled, clean, bright, fresh and dark green.
Optimum temperatures for green beans are 40-45 degrees
with relative humidity of 95 %. Typical shelf life
under ideal conditions is 4-5 days. Green beans are
ethylene sensitive so keep away from ethylene producing
commodities. Green beans are also susceptible to chilling
injury if held at temperatures below 40 degrees.

| Merchandising: |
When displaying Pacific Gold Farms
green beans, sell them in bulk so consumers can choose
quantity and quality. Our beans will keep for several
days when refrigerated under ideal conditions, but
like all fresh produce, they are best when consumed
immediately. Provide tips to your customers on display
cards to them select the freshest produce. They should
look for:
- Long straight pods
- Beans free of decay and blemishes
- Beans should snap easily when
bent
Be sure to tell your customers
to store unwashed green beans refrigerated in plastic
bags. Do not wash or snap off the ends of the beans
before storage. |
