Handling / Merchandising
of Blackberries at Retail
Handling:
Blackberries, like red raspberries
are highly perishable. They must always be refrigerated
between 32-34 degrees. This berry variety is also
highly susceptible to freezing and must not incur
temperatures below 31 degrees. When kept in optimum
conditions, shelf life can typically be 2-3 days.
When selecting blackberries, always look for berries
that are plump and dry, with no leaky juice in the
container. We always ship Pacific Gold Farms blackberries
in clamshell containers for optimum quality and shelf
life. Be sure to display them in a single layer to
avoid crushing.
Merchandising:
Stimulate consumer impulse purchases
by putting Pacific Gold Farms blackberries, raspberries
and strawberries into a combined berry patch display.
One berry variety can be featured in an ad to encourage
sales of other berries on display.
